A Hawk And A Hacksaw return with Volume 8, their first release for Rocket Recordings. Formed by Jeremy Barnes of Neutral Milk Hotel in 2002 and expanded through his partnership with violinist Heather Trost, the project explores folk traditions reaching from northern Romania through the Balkans to Turkey.
Following time spent on other projects, Barnes and Trost reunite with music that pairs an uplifting, universal spirit with cathartic rawness. “Gayda” transforms a Turkish bagpipe melody through distorted violin and tapan drum, bringing celebratory energy into contact with transcendent noise.
Opening song “Beloved” offers a call to arms, while closing track “Yes, we love you” responds to the Bendaly Family’s 1978 Lebanese pop song “Do You Love Me”, turning its question towards a broader vision of love and acknowledgement.
This edition is pressed on green vinyl.
