Aesop Rock and Blockhead reunite for Trouble Mountain, a full-length meditation on escape, survival and the strange terrain of everyday life. Nearly three decades into their creative partnership, the duo imagine a fictional getaway inspired by the Poconos resort commercials that filled New York airwaves during their childhoods.
Aesop Rock’s thirteenth studio album turns family history, work, memory and the absurd mechanics of modern life into vivid, deeply human reflections. Blockhead pairs his writing with lean, evolving soundscapes that draw on their longstanding chemistry while moving into exploratory territory.
Revisiting themes of labour, alienation and the hope of being somewhere else, Trouble Mountain asks why we keep searching for escape. Guests include Hanni El Khatib, Baby Dayliner, Open Mike Eagle, Cavalier and 4-IZE.
