Tales From The Silver Lounge

The Blue Aeroplanes have been delivering their distinctive brand of rackety sprechgesang for four decades, and they show no signs of slowing down. Their 14th studio album, Tales From The Silver Lounge, is based on overheard conversations between the clientele of a rather louche café/bar in an unnamed city on an unknown planet much like ours. The time is unknown too, though the décor tends towards the late 1950s and early 1960s. The identities of the members of the Silver Lounge are, of course, confidential.

Following two best-of compilations released by Chrysalis Records in 2025, the Bristol band return with an album packed with guitar-band flavours and poems covering name-doppelgangers, falconry terms, Don Marquis, postcards, Greek mythology, abandoned Teslas, the First World War and the surreal nature of music-hall jokes.

The third album with the current line-up features Gerard Langley, Bec Jevons, Mike Youé, Rita Lynch, Chris Sharp, John Langley, Ed Taylor and Wojtek Dmochowski. Guests include Alexander Dmochowski on saxophone and clarinet, Will Diamond on violin and Steve Bush on backing vocals.

“The Blue Aeroplanes? Not my cup of tea, but I can see what people see in them.” — Mark E. Smith
