If The Standells were only known for the classic greasy '60s rock of Dirty Water and Sometimes Good Guys Don't Wear White, their immortality would be assured. This reissue, however, offers not only those 2 great tracks but also Medication, Stones' songs like 19th Nervous Breakdown and Paint It Black, Mainline, My Little Red Book and 22 other great sounds of the '60s in brilliant fidelity transferred from original master tapes. The grungy beat aura that emanates from these sides seems strangely at odds with the band's publicity at the time. Drummer and lead singer Dick Dodd was "the baby of the group..he started 'way back when' as a member of TV's 'Mickey Mouse Club'. His hobbies: "horseback riding, surfing and driving" while Gary Lane has a personal aim: "to be married with a nice family and then live happily ever after'd"? Vocalist, guitarist and organist Larry Tamblyn (brother of Russ) at least has the classic garage rock'n' roll preoccupations with horror movies and skateboarding and odd job back-ground of fry cook, dish washer and hot dog vendor. One to stash alongside The Count Five.
