The Lafayette Afro Rock Band were an anomaly, an American funk band relocated to Paris, playing music as much indebted to soul and motown as it was to jazz and African rhythms. Summoning a sound that they described as Afro funk, the band have been sampled endlessly by big name producers and crate diggers alike, all the while somehow still remaining in relative obscurity. Chances are you've heard something taken from one of their songs, but had no idea of its origins. Here remastered for the first time, their album Soul Makossa is released by Strut.
