Dutch Uncles push their exploratory approach further on Polygon Hotel, their first album as a six-piece. Self-produced, it brings together atypical time signatures, intricate melodies and the playful chemistry that has driven the Stockport-formed band for eighteen years.
Inspired by the people, places and chance encounters of Levenshulme, Manchester, where vocalist and lyricist Duncan Wallis has put down roots, the album takes its name from a disused local pub. Reimagined as a home for the record’s characters and stories, the Polygon Hotel holds its laments, absurdities and breakthroughs together, moving between the personal and surreal, the darkly comic and quietly profound.
Beneath its adventurous sound lies an exploration of control: what we inherit, what we lose and what we can still change. The first half circles the past before a gradual shift opens the door to a more hopeful perspective. Longtime touring multi-instrumentalist Henry Broadhead and guitarist Neil Wright join Wallis, Robin Richards, Peter Broadhead and Andrew Proudfoot as full-time members.
Available on Cringle Park Green vinyl and CD.
