New Orleans Joys: The Earliest Recordings, 1923–1926

New Orleans Joys: The Earliest Recordings, 1923–1926 chronicles the formative work of pianist, composer and raconteur Jelly Roll Morton. Drawing on New Orleans blues, church music, brass bands, ragtime and opera, these performances document a pioneering voice in the development of jazz.

All fifty-three tracks have been transferred and restored from rare original 78rpm records. Essays by Ricky Riccardi, Andrew Oliver and co-producers Joe Lauro and Russell Shor explore Morton’s life and music, accompanied by rare photographs and ephemera in an eighty-page booklet.

Mastered by Jessica Thompson and designed by Barbara Bersche, this deluxe double-CD edition is presented in a hardshell outercase. Transfers and restoration are by Mike Kieffer, Dustin Wittmann, Mark Beresford and Richard Nevins.
