More Info
My War marked a stylistic departure from Black Flag's blistering hardcore punk - at least on the B-Side. While the title track and the other tracks on side A tell the same story, the opposite side features a sludgy, heavy, doomy approach that was more like Black Sabbath than anything else. While this alienated diehard fans at the time, My War has since gone onto be a major influence on grunge, alternative rock and later punk releases.
"Within the hardcore scene, side two of My War was as heretical as Bob Dylan playing electric guitar on one side of Bringing It All Back Home."
— Michael Azerrad, Our Band Could Be Your Life (2001)
