More Info

Recorded at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland on 5 July 1973, Live At Montreux captures Marlena Shaw backed by pianist George Gaffney, bassist Ed Boyer and drummer Harold Jones. Produced by George Butler, the performance brings together jazz standards, soul classics and songs from Shaw’s own repertoire.

Opening with “The Show Has Begun”, the set moves through “The Song Is You”, Stevie Wonder’s “You Are the Sunshine of My Life” and “Twisted”, before “But for Now”, “Save the Children” and the celebrated “Woman of the Ghetto”.

Originally released on Blue Note, the album became one of Shaw’s most acclaimed recordings. The introduction to “Woman of the Ghetto” has been sampled by artists including St. Germain, Blue Boy, Ghostface Killah and Violadores del Verso.

Presented here as a limited-edition LP.
