'Jazz Track' contains the original soundtrack for Louis Malle's film 'Ascenseur pour l'echafaud' recorded by Miles' group in Paris during December, 1957 plus four tracks from a little-known New York session in May, 1958. As a further bonus there are three tracks from a March, 1956 quintet session with tenorist Sonny Rollins.
Miles hauntingly beautiful and dramatic playing on the ten short soundtrack pieces greatly enhances the film. The outstanding 1958 sextet session features John Coltrane(tenor), Cannonball Adderley(alto), Bill Evans(piano), Paul Chambers(bass) & Jimmy Cobb(drums). Highlight is 'On Green Dolphin Street' which Ian Carr described in his biography of Miles as having "an atmosphere of sumptuous brooding, a kind of sadness of the ages".
The magnificent music on this fascinating LP should be an essential part of any Miles Davis collection.
