Here Is A Health

Here Is A Health celebrates forty years of an extraordinary collection of traditional songs, fiddle tunes and stories recorded by Seán Corcoran around Derrygonnelly in West Fermanagh between 1979 and 1985. Originally issued as a double cassette and booklet in 1986, the recordings appear on vinyl and CD for the first time.

Mostly captured in kitchens, with some pub recordings and even a bedroom performance, these sessions preserve music in its natural setting. Rattling teacups, ticking clocks and passing tractors sit alongside the encouragement of family and friends, evoking the mixture of serious and light-hearted songs, stories and tunes heard at a traditional house gathering.

Remastered from the original tapes by Aidan Foley at Master Labs, the collection features updated booklet material edited by Rosa Corcoran and new artwork by Denise Conroy at Votive Illustration. It is the third release in Nyahh Records’ traditional music series.

The double-vinyl edition is housed in a gatefold sleeve with previously unseen photographs and an extensive forty-four-page booklet containing notes on the songs and the area where they were recorded.
