2XDEF's First & Last captures MC D and Audio MC at full adolescent voltage, forged in the furnace of early 90s UK hip-hop. Circling crews orbiting Hijack, The Demon Boyz and Silver Bullet, and mentored by The Powerlords' Powerpack collective, the pair channel that era's concrete-weighted urgency into something raw and combustible. The CSP remix on 'First & Last' is all iron-lung drums and serrated loop-work, vocals barked with clipped defiance over grainy low-end. The DJ Fusion Hip Hop mix digs deeper into boom-bap austerity, kicks landing like bootsteps in a stairwell. Halted at white label, it moved hand to hand, myth accruing in pirate radio static. Brief life, lasting bruise.
