Created by producer Boom Bip and Warpaint’s Stella Mozgawa, this tribute to classic techno and house records is poised perfectly between the club and the afterparty while being a perfect summer mood-setter.
Opener “I Want To Be” kicks things off in an upbeat manner,. The drums have a Burial shuffle behind melodic synth drones and a twinkling melody until the title’s vocal motif creeps in to lift the track to a state of crepuscular ecstasy.
From here the acid influence becomes apparent, with the unmistakable 303 bass sound underpinning much of the rest of the set to vastly different affects. “Bayo” has a vaguely Balearic feel with its downtempo beat, dreamy, drifting vocal samples and mellow, filtered bass riff while “Anx” is all rolling snares and squelching acid synths.
Highly recommended for fans of Moderat, John Talabot, Burial, Caribou/Daphni and Floating Points.
