Both of these tracks appeared on the Ace compilation, “Bedazzled The Barbara Moore TV, Film & Studio Work 1965-81”.
Possibly Moore’s most familiar piece of work, ‘At The Sign Of The Swinging Cymbal’, is was better known as the theme from BBC radio’s Pick Of The Pops. Recorded in March 1970, the music had been written and first recorded by Brian Fahey back in 1960 – Moore’s version, appropriately, swung a lot more than the rather stiff original, and has been a regular radio presence ever since.
The single was issued on Pye under the name Brass Incorporated, but sold poorly. On the flip was the self-penned ‘Just Like That’, written to order by Moore as the theme for Terry Wogan’s BBC radio show – initially on Radio 1, mostly on Radio 2 − which he would use for decades.
Again, it swung like crazy, and will be familiar to millions in Britain, while Moore’s name remains barely known.
