More Info
Animal is an almost entirely solo record from Ryan Adams, who wrote every song and played drums, bass, guitars, piano, synths and harmonica. Produced and mixed with Dror Mohar and mastered by Randy Merrill at Sterling Sound, its ten songs inhabit a night-time world of neon, bar lights, wet streets and a car out on the 101.
Long-time friend Daniel Clarke contributes synths and Hammond B3, while J.C. Khul’s saxophone carries the coda of “Soon”. “Automatic Heart” offers a wry confession, “Pass Me By” a plain-spoken ache, and “Jesus H” a horror-film walk through October streets. “Amethyst” takes a bruised, funny and defiant look at the music business, ageing and survival, before the record closes with the cold, wintry “Outsiders In”.
Available on 140g Blueberry Blue vinyl with a hype sticker, black vinyl limited to 500 copies, and CD in a four-panel digisleeve.
