Recognised and revered as the founding father of British blues, Alexis Korner had limited recording success under his own name during his lifetime, but many of his recordings have enjoyed something of a renaissance in recent years. Similarly, his pivotal role in the careers of such groups as The Rolling Stones, Free, Led Zeppelin, The Animals and Manfred Mann has been acknowledged, ensuring Alexis a lasting place in the pantheon of British music. Here we turn our attentions to his early recording career, when Alexis Korners Blues Incorporated was the must see artist at the Marquee club in London. When Blues Incorporated took over on a Thursday night, the club was lucky to see a hundred punters come through the door; pretty soon the Marquee was turning them away as the capacity of one thousand had already been reached. They subsequently added a second night, with much the same result everyone wanted to see and hear Blues Incorporated. This album shows exactly what all the fuss was about. Firstly, it should be pointed out that the album was not live, nor was it recorded at the Marquee, but rather at the Decca Records recording studio in London. Despite this, not one of the twelve tracks is lacking in spontaneity; there is energy and excitement dripping from each and every one of them.
