More Info

There’s an interesting new collaboration behind Dragonflies, the self-titled debut from Dhani Harrison and producer Nigel Godrich. Harrison handles the guitars and vocals, while Godrich takes care of production, bringing together Harrison’s melodic, often atmospheric songwriting with the kind of detailed studio work you’d expect from the man behind so much of Radiohead’s catalogue. It’s a meeting of two musicians with plenty of history, but the record seems less interested in showing off and more focused on creating a particular mood.

The eight-track album moves through a hazy mix of alternative rock, psychedelic textures and cinematic arrangements, with songs such as “Slower”, “Setting Sun” and “Straight Line” setting the tone. There’s a spacious, slightly dreamlike quality to the material, helped along by percussion from Joey Waronker and string arrangements from David Campbell. Rather than piling on the production, Godrich appears to give the songs room to breathe, letting the guitars, vocals and orchestral touches gradually reveal themselves.
