More Info

What’s A Heaven For? is the long-awaited debut album from Portsmouth band Hallan. Their propulsive post-punk sound expands into a driving mix of electronics, new wave, art-pop and club-influenced rhythms, with lyrics drawing on history, politics, religion and philosophy.

Taking its title from Robert Browning’s Andrea del Sarto, the album explores encounters with Judas Iscariot, King Solomon, Emperor Nero, Robert Falcon Scott, the Wars of the Roses and a Syrian soldier stationed at Hadrian’s Wall, alongside Carl Sagan’s reflections on humanity’s place in the universe.

First single “Solomon” finds Hallan at their abrasive finest. Gritty basslines, shimmering guitar sweeps and crunched drum beats propel the track, while Conor’s lyrics use the imagery and history of King Solomon to question truth in a society often too quick to react to the news.
