More Info

Tracey Thorn is one half of Everything But The Girl. ‘A Distant Shore’ is Tracey’s only solo album and is classy, simple melodic tunes with just vocals and a guitar. The album reached number one in the Indie chart in 1983. ‘A Distant Shore’ is now being re-issued with a new booklet, and with the surge in popularity of Everything But The Girl with the international hit single ‘Missing’, interest in Tracey’s solo recordings has never been higher.

The essential Cherry Red LP, A Distant Shore is a timeless classic. Recorded for just £138 when she was just 20 years old, it is an astonishing demonstration of Tracey’s songwriting talent, stripped down to vocal and acoustic guitar. Both the single Plain Sailing and the album featured strongly in the indie charts, and the LP has now been certified a silver disk with over 60 000 sales in the UK. Tracey was in the Marine Girls and of course went on to form Everything But The Girl with Ben Watt.
