The title of Ornette Coleman’s second LP, recorded in 1959 and released by Contemporary Records, sets out the man’s intentions very plainly indeed. ‘Tomorrow Is The Question!’ is a firm and confident statement from a decisive individual determined to move forward into the excitement of the future, heeding as little from the past or even the present as is possible. The extent to which Coleman succeeded in this objective is not necessarily clear.
