More Info

• Live, one-take, no overdubs, and very real document of Bill Bruford’s Earthworks from 1992
• Recorded in America and partly in England on tour ‘Stamping Ground’ (originally released in 1994) was the final Earthworks album to feature Django Bates, Iain Ballamy and Tim Harries.

• Out of print for some time, this re-issue is on Bruford’s own Summerfold Records and was overseen personally by him. Fans suggest this may be the Earthworks album to get.

“Bruford’s chordal patterns sound practically symphonic amid his epic starts and stops — further proof of the originality of one of the most musical drummers of all time”.
AllMusic 4.5 stars

The album sheds great insight into the kind of interplay and liberal interpretation that made Earthworks Mark I an even more powerful live unit than it was studio innovator.

Four years later, Bruford would form a new version of the band – Earthworks Mark 2 – in a more conventional acoustic jazz vein.
