Bienvenue à ‘Pop Psychédélique’. This is an irresistible compilation of classic and modern French Pop with a psychedelic twist, due for release on double jasmine yellow vinyl, cd and digital via Two-Piers (Republic of Music) on the 1st October 2021.

French Pop is enjoying a resurgence through soundtracks for recent hit TV series such as 'The Queens Gambit', 'Killing Eve' and 'The Serpent', shows that have helped get millions of counter culture lovers through lockdown life over the past 18 months. For those who know, French pop is so effortlessly cool and hip that you can’t help but fall in love. Psychedelia is fuzzy, freaky dancefloor music to lose yourself in. Put the two together and you have an intoxicating mix that is so lush and so perfect.

‘Pop Psychédélique’ covers an array of alternative French hits from 1964 - 2019, initially bringing together the early pioneers and superstars of French Pop such as Serge Gainsbourg and Brigitte Bardot with the darlings of the 60’s scene France Gall, Gillian Hills and Jacqueline Taieb. From more recent times, actress Emmanuelle Seigner and Brian Jones Town Massacre frontman Anton Newscombe's band L'Epée and The Liminanas' psych sounds fill side B, with both tracks being used in 'Killing Eve'. These follow the haunting sound of Fabienne DelSol; the 60s Parisien cool of Anna Karina's 'Roller Girl' from the iconic film 'Anna'; the freakbeat psych rock of Les 5 Gentlemen, the unbridled dance floor joy of Charlotte Leslie’s cover of The Capitol's soul classic 'We Got a Thing That's in the Groove'; the eccentric earworm of ‘Les Cornichons’ by Nino Ferrer, and the sheer Moog pop brilliance of ‘E.V.A’ by Jean Jacques-Perrey. To close the compilation is Stereolab’s modern classic ‘Cybele’s Reverie' and Air - arguably one of the most influential electronic bands of the 2000s - with the synth psych pop wonder of ‘Don’t Be Light’. The closing track on side D is none other than Pierre Henry’s epic Big-Beat anthem ‘Psyché Rock’. 'Pop Psychédélique' is pure joy from start to finish!
