Mr Bongo celebrates ten years of O Terno’s Melhor Do Que Parece, a contemporary Brazilian classic first released in 2016. Ranked by Rolling Stone Brazil among that year’s best releases, it blends Tropicália-inspired psychedelia and indie rock with a rich palette of sixties and seventies influences.
The trio of Tim Bernardes on vocals and guitar, Guilherme d’Almeida on bass and Gabriel Basile on drums recorded the album over three intensive months. Distorted guitars meet lush strings, whirling organs, horns and experimental DIY textures, drawing on the spirit of Os Mutantes and Rogério Duprat alongside European and American rock.
From the immediate pull of “Culpa” and Marina Mello’s harp introduction to “No” through the psychedelic surge of “Nao Espero Mais” and “Lua Cheia”, the album balances invention with melodic warmth. Reflective songs “Depois Que A Dor Passar” and “Volta” offer moments of delicacy before the expansive title track brings strings, horns and guitar into a fitting finale.
Alongside the standard LP and CD editions, an indie-exclusive neon pink vinyl edition is available.
