It is from his incredible run of 18 Okeh R&B hits that we take our back-to-back classics: “Investigate” and “It’s The Beat”, both from the golden year of soul 1966 and both produced by country music mystro Billy Sherrill. It was Sherrill’s Chicago-tinged treatment of “The Beat” that took Lance back into the charts reaching #37 R&B and earning him a slot on Dick Clark’s TV special Where The Action Is.
