The Fania All Stars had their first official performance in 1968 at the Red Garter in the Village, but it wasn’t until three years later, on August 26th of 1971, that the group exploded at the Cheetah Club in New York. That night became a salsa-induced delirium that marked the lives of those present. This live album, part one of two, will transport you to that unforgettable moment in salsa music history. Listeners will experience the burgeoning salsa scene of the early ’70s in New York City. Four exciting jams fill this album and features Fania legends Johnny Pacheco, Héctor Lavoe, Cheo Feliciano, Ismael Miranda, Pete “El Conde” Rodriguez, Willie Colón, Ray Barretto and many more. Allmusicstated it best in a review of the recording, “Decades later, still the first salsa recording to reach for–ultimate party music played by the masters.”
