Doves guitarist and vocalist Jez Williams steps out with Life Of Me And You, a ten-track debut solo album he describes as a “book of my life”. Drawing on four decades as a writer, performer and producer with Doves, Sub Sub and Black Rivers, it marks a deliberate move into a musical world of his own.
Deeply introspective and adventurous, the album takes inspiration from Lou Reed, UFOs, sixties pop, Balearic chill and “slow disco”. Opening single “Hollow Man” channels the pressures of modern life into a heavy riff and an expansive chorus, confronting the overwhelming rush of information and opinion.
“With this album, I made a conscious effort to try and say something else on my own,” Williams explains. “I’ve worked really hard on it. It’s been a labour of love, and I just want one thing out there that’s all my own.”
Available on Red Dawn coloured vinyl and digipak CD.
