The album contains classic songs from legendary songwriters Gerry Goffin & Carole King, Barry Mann & Cynthia Weil, Michel Legrand, Randy Newman, and Burt Bacharach & Hal David amongst others.

A flop on initial release, the album is now acknowledged by many as one of the greatest albums ever made.

It contains the Top 10 hit "Son Of A Preacher Man".
