A regular guest with US TV chat-show host David Letterman from 1984 to 1993,
Hicks' material - which included no-holds-barred takedowns of everything from
religion to politics - frequently troubled the TV censors, leading to one of his
entire routines being banned from broadcast after it was recorded. Finally aired in
its entirety 15 years following Hicks' death, the routine was the last appearance
the then ailing comic would flm for Letterman.
