Derided by the hardcore Fall heads at the time,it was time for a renewed listen. I was surprised by how WEIRD The Frenz Experiment now sounds - uncustomarily poppy in places, but still unmistakably Fall-esque (rumbling Hanley bass, clanging dual guitars, thundering drums) - and, in it's own way, genuinely "experimental" I suppose, an attempt to tidy up their sound while retaining their shambling provincial peculiarities. "Oswald Defence Lawyer" or "Frenz" itself (for instance) sound like sparklier versions of songs they might've released circa Hex Enduction Hour.
