If Etta James was one of the distinctive jazz singers to emerge from the period at the end of the 1950s, then Flora Purim was the most distinctive jazz voice of the 1970s. A talented Brazilian singer she married the percussionist Airto Moreira and explored a modernist, Latin groove that brought together the samba simplicity of Asturd Gilberto and the psychedelic Latin jazz of the late 60s and early 70s. Milestone Memories features the classics Open Your Eyes You Can Fly, Windows (both from the pen of ex-boss Chick Corea), Joe Henderson's Black Narcissus and nine other brilliant Spanish-tinged sketches.
