More Info

Chunga's Revenge is Zappa's first album with funk keyboardist, trombonist and singer George Duke, who becomes a human beat box with scat vocals. When released in 1970, Zappa saw Chunga's Revenge as a preview of his large-scale movie/soundtrack project “200 Motels”. Zappa establishes another character of his freak empire: Chunga, the underprivileged cleaning lady with an immigrant background (no connection with the flamenco dancer and painter La Chunga). Parts of the material are taken from the recording sessions of Zappa's Hot Rats album. Guitar-heavy, Chunga's Revenge is a magnificent potpourri of Eastern European world music (“Transylvania Boogie “), hard rock (“Tell Me You Love Me “), pop songs (“Sharleena “) and cocktail jazz (“Twenty Small Cigars “). A prime example of Zappa's indescribable creativity of the late 1960s and early '70s.
