Written by Mike Paradinas in his late teens with help from Frank Naughton, the music draws on early Aphex, Detroit techno and UK hardcore, forging a spirited, funky and lo-fi version of rave.

Crunchy drums meet melodies poised between John Barry and classic television themes. Before owning a computer, Paradinas recorded live keyboards alongside drum machines on a four-track recorder. Working with Naughton brought an Atari 1040ST and Cubeat software into the mix, as the pair pooled equipment and recorded together in Wimbledon.

After a proposed EP for Evolution was shelved, a demo reached Aphex Twin through connections at Kingston University. Paradinas wrote much of Tango N’Vectif over two weeks using borrowed equipment, and a release with Rephlex was agreed by the end of 1992. His advance arrived in the form of an Atari computer of his own.

Tracklist

Side A

Whale Soup

Xenith Filigree Anus (Edit)

µ-Ziq Theme (Original)

Driving Is Easy

Side B

Methyl Albion

Ad Misericordiam (Remix)

Auqeamb

Amenida

Mucky Puppy

Side C

Phi*1700 [u/v] (Extended)

Paco

Crosstown Traffic

Side D

Xolbe 2

Rainforest

Glink
