get-at-the-wave
Get At The Wave

Originally created in 1987 as an image album for a luxury Sanyo air-conditioner, Get At The Wave is a surprising and enduring work of Japanese ambient music. Synthesizers and natural field recordings transport listeners away from the heat and noise of urban life into open water, gentle wind and unhurried space.

Takashi Kokubo’s mastery as an acoustic environment designer is present in every texture, blending electronic composition with an almost physical sense of atmosphere and place. Intimate, expansive and quietly radical, the album is an essential document of kankyō ongaku.

A pioneer of environmental music since the mid-1980s, Kokubo has created sounds woven into Japanese daily life, from the national mobile phone earthquake alert to the sign tone for iD e-money and NTT DoCoMo’s melody call tone. His work was included in the Grammy-nominated compilation Kankyo Ongaku.

The remastering and artwork for this vinyl edition were created by Kokubo himself.

Tracklist

Side A

A Dream Sails Out To Sea Scene 1: Symphony Of Glory And Wind

A Dream Sails Out To Sea Scene 2: Underwater Dreaming

A Dream Sails Out To Sea Scene 3: Breath Of Blue Water

Side B

Ocean Breeze

Highland Whispers
