In October of 1958, while en route to play a gig in Baltimore, Maryland, Monk, his friend the Baroness Nica de Koenigswarter and saxophonist Charlie Rouse were arrested on drugs charges and Thelonious lost his Cabaret Card for a second time. This banned him from playing in New York clubs where alcohol was served for twenty months, and only allowed him to perform at concerts halls.
