More Info

The debut album from New York's Television, originally released in 1977.

Although an important part of the original punk movement, along with bands like Blondie and Talking Heads, they are more commonly referred to as new wave or post-punk in latterday musical categorisation. The interplay between the twin guitars of Tom Verlaine and Richard Lloyd set Television apart from their peers and they defined a sound which had a massive influence on what became 'alternative rock'. The album and both singles ("Marquee Moon" and "Prove It") all charted within the U.K. Top 30, but none of them charted in the U.S. (as with most of their contemporaries). It is commonly listed as one of the greatest albums of all-time.
