More Info

White Moth Black Butterfly are a contemporary pop project with progressive and experimental music at its heart; initially created by Daniel Tompkins as a crea- tive outlet aside from his writing with TesseracT to indulge in his other musical influences ranging from Massive Attack, Enigma, Sigur Ros, David Bowie to Tool, Dredg and Thrice.

White Moth Black Butterfly features a team of songwriters & producers based worldwide, all at the height of their own scenes. Collaborating with Tompkins are New-Delhi based Skyharbor songwriter and producer Keshav Dhar; US based producer and string arranger Randy Slaugh who has previously worked with the likes of Devin Townsend, Architects & Periphery, drummer Mac Christensen and the line-up is completed by UK singer & lyricist Jordan Bethany (Turner), all fea- tured on the band’s 2017 album, their first to be released on Kscope- ‘Atone’.

Self-produced, engineered and recorded over three continents in various home studios throughout the Covid 19 lockdowns, ‘The Cost Of Dreaming’ was writ- ten remotely with regular file sharing and meetings online. This album signals a sonic evolution in the bands’ output while still retaining core elements from previous recordings such as organic string sections and experimental theme link- ing interludes.

There are strong themes throughout the album, with “Use You” addressing the ongoing domestic abuse crisis during lockdown and offering a way to sign post people toward supporting agencies. A series of easter eggs is available for fans to discover too, with a link between TesseracT’s live portals experience, demon- strating the interconnected relationships throughout the two bands’ various pro- jects. Focus tracks for the campaign will be “The Dreamer”, “Soma” & “Darker Days” all with visual assets for social marketing.

Featuring artwork from the award-winning Ani Artworks and for the first time procuring the vocal mixing services of an external producer in Forrester Savell (Karnivool, Skyharbor), The Cost Of Dreaming finds the band in a highly creative mood.

‘White Moth Black Butterfly’s charm is their complementing contrasts. Just look at the evocative name, or the way they seamlessly juggle pop sheen with experi- mental, cinematic soundscapes.’- Louder Sound
