Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood” visits 1969 Los Angeles, where everything is changing, as TV star Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his longtime stunt double Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt) make their way around an industry they hardly recognize anymore. The ninth film from the writer/director features a large ensemble cast and multiple storylines in a tribute to the final moments of Hollywood’s golden age.
Personally curated by Tarantino himself, the soundtrack is a love letter to the music of 1960s era Hollywood. The Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood soundtrack features over 20 standout tracks from artists such as Paul Revere & The Raiders, Deep Purple, and Neil Diamond, as well as vintage radio advertisements, creating a true time capsule of a golden era of filmmaking.

The 7th album from modern psychedelic wonders Moon Duo, with a slight change of tack, as they now embrace dancier elements for the first time.
Taking disco as its groove-oriented departure point, “Stars Are the Light” shimmers with elements of ’ 70s funk and ’90s rave. Johnson’s signature guitar sound is at its most languid and refined, while Yamada’s synths and oneiric vocals are foregrounded to create a spacious percussiveness that invites the body to move with its mesmeric rhythms. With Sonic Boom ( Spacemen 3, Spectrum ) at the mixing desk in Portugal’s Serra de Sintra, (known to the Romans as “The Mountains of the Moon”) the area’s lush landscape and powerful lunar energies exerted a strong influence on the vibe and sonic texture of the album.
7 months after “Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost – Part 1” comes Part 2.
“Part 2 is a heavier listen, the guitars are more emphasised and there’s some big riffs on it,” explained Philippakis in an interview with NME. “It’s a rock record and it definitely carries on the narrative from part one. Part one ended with a lot of fire and destructive imagery, part two is trying to respond to that: how you can continue in the wreckage and through the scorched earth? We’re just excited for people to hear it because it completes the journey of what we’ve made over the last year-and-a-half.”
Whereas ‘Part 1’ melded Foals’ disparate influences into a thrilling melting pot of sounds, much of ‘Part 2’ simmers with pure visceral intensity. ‘The Runner’ and ‘Black Bull’ are streamlined attacks, with vehement rhythmic onslaughts the foundation for even bigger riffs.
It’s an approach that also informs ‘10,000 Feet’, as it lurches ominously from dreamy soundscapes into a heavyweight collision of post-punk and psychedelia.
Excellent first international release from Japanese musician Meirin Yung AKA Zombie-Chang.
The 10 track album is the second release on Toothpaste Records, the U.K.-based label that focuses on international releases of the cream of the Japanese indie scene. It follows the release of the critically-acclaimed and fan-praised
international debut album from Tentenko in 2018.
Zombie-Chang is the moniker of 25 year-old Tokyo-based singer and songwriter Meirin Yung. “Petit Petit Petit” is written and produced by Meirin, and performed with help from the rhythm section of another act based in the
Japanese capital, Never Young Beach. The addition of drummer Kento Suzuki and bassist Keigo Tatsumi for these recordings has further developed the Zombie-Chang sound. Having already morphed from her Moldy Peaches-
inspired anti-folk first recordings to the embrace of electronic sounds and synthpop (which Meirin called “anti-EDM”) on 2016’s “Zombie-Change” and 2017’s “Gang!”, “Petit Petit Petit” introduced the sound of a cohesive band to
perfectly frame Meirin’s strongest batch of songs yet.
The first new Iggy Pop album since 2016’s well-received “Post Pop Depression”.
While it follows the highest charting album of Iggy’s career, “Free” has virtually nothing in common sonically with its predecessor—or with any other Iggy Pop album. On the process that led Iggy and principal players Leron Thomas and Noveller to create this uniquely somber and contemplative entry in the Iggy Pop canon, Iggy says:
“This is an album in which other artists speak for me, but I lend my voice…By the end of the tours following “Post Pop
Depression”, I felt sure that I had rid myself of the problem of chronic insecurity that had dogged my life and career for too long. But I also felt drained. And I felt like I wanted to put on shades, turn my back, and walk away. I wanted to be free. I know that’s an illusion, and that freedom is only something you feel, but I have lived my life thus far in the belief that that feeling is all that is worth pursuing; all that you need – not happiness or love necessarily, but the feeling of being free. So this album just kind of happened to me, and I let it happen.”
