Sister Ray - Play It On: Ep. 1
We’re very excited for our return to the Brixton Windmill this Thursday after the success of our first Sister Ray Selects gig last month. This month however, is a little different; this event is the start of a new series, “Play It On”, a showcase of our new favourite up and coming artists.
This time we are proud to present Folly Group, Bingo Fury and Ellie Bleach.
A quartet hailing from East London, Folly Group have quickly risen through the ranks of the independent music scene. Their shapeshifting sound has been unleashed through the EP “Awake and Hungry”, released in June of this year. Any listeners of 6 Music reading may recognise their single “Butt No Rifle”, which has recently been added to the station’s B-List. We’re loving their krautrocky, post-punky and funky fusion and can’t wait for what promises to be a thrilling live show.
A Bristol based project spearheaded by charismatic mastermind Jack Ogborne, Bingo Fury’s tracks create their own microcosm. Their songs can snap from hypnotic balladry to a whirlwind of head-spinning noise in seconds, all whilst maintaining the charm and magnetism brought by Ogborne’s evocative words and enchanting vocals. SR staff have seen Bingo Fury previously and can attest, this is a show you will not want to miss!
Ellie Bleach is a singular voice, pairing witty lyricism with masterful arrangements that take influence from a wide array of sources across pop history. With nods to 60s jazz pop and 70s easy listening, this winning combination is one that has captured the attention of our staff here. We can safely say that Thursday’s performance will delight anyone seeking great melodies with one of the capital’s shining young lyrical talents.
